Beloved: Restoration

Beloved: Restoration is an interpretive collection based on the lives of actual children portrayed in Beloved: Legacy of Slavery. As I drew the original portraits, the resignation in their eyes and their stoic facial expressions spoke volumes to me of the institution of slavery, but they also served to mask the beauty and magic of the inner child. All children have rich inner lives, full of dreams and fantasy, and it was this that I wanted to portray in these artistic interpretations of their lives.
